Bringing India in through the language of its craftsmanship rather than the language of its design. It is an aesthetic that is abundantly evident in the 17200 sft. area of the residence. It was also a reflection of its home owners which came through in the juxtaposition of Indian art with contemporary furniture and environment and a color palette that drew inspiration from our heritage. The touch of tradition comes up unexpectedly, but fits in comfortable in its contemporary environment, creating and inviting paradox of a home.

This house on four levels is a clever interplay of volumes set around a water-body which is conceived as the focal point of the central atrium and presents a series of airy transparent interiors that are belied by the buildings exteriors. The bridges are unusual but effective domestic features links two sections of the house. The revival of the age old traditional terrazzo was painstakingly executed by artisans from Gujarat, in black & white cement without using any partition strips in the entire 160x140space. The water body was created in a space demarcated as a shaft and a retractable roof provided for air circulation light and natural cooling of the entire three floors. A micro concrete wall with the water spout was also textured using a common wide tooth comb to create the desired effect. The practice thus used dates back to our heritage palaces where water was the only source to create a cooling ambience. Indian white makrana, a variety of hand chisel limestones and granite was used in various areas. Grey micro-concrete was liberally used along with a hanging onyx wall, ovencol veneer paneling and Reclaimed wood creates a vibrant colour palette . The entire house was equipped with double glazed aluminum to reduced carbon foot prints. The terrace has a lush garden and a water feature to further Reduce heat in the rooms directly underneath facing the harsh southern sun. The client's brief of a house with a interplay of levels and natural elements thus achieved, his prized and unique art collection was the proverbial icing On the cake. The collection was further infused with a variety of local art and craft forms like the Gond art used as the headboard panel in the sons room. Pichwaies In the pooja room walls along with pietradura and Sanjhi.

The basement which houses the formal areas and a swimming pool is treated in micro concrete, wood and exotic Italian stone in the powder room. The rest of the floor areas use grey Italian grainless stone for the flooring and Italian & Belgium granite for toilets. Furnitures were designed in house, keeping client’s requirement in consideration. Unique elements were incorporated in the form of ‘Handis’ as light fixtures, a 200 yr old temple chowkhat, a ‘Kadai’ in the form of washbasin and a contemporary take on traditional ‘jhoola’ with an artwork background to break the monotones of contemporary feel.
